quasi-normalcy:

We have this interesting situation where we basically no longer have privacy nor the expectation of privacy, but we also don’t have community or meaningful connection with others, so we’re all simultaneously both completely exposed and absolutely alone, and please understand that when I say this situation is “interesting”, what I in fact mean is that it’s “nightmarish and I wish I could wake up”

i seriously think abetting the surveillance state is a moral failing. this is about ring cameras and other such devices

look i understand you may feel like you have benign reasons for having a camera at your door (& in some extreme cases i really do understand why it may be necessary) but i still think normalizing & participating in this constant surveillance not only makes us easier to police, but also cows us & makes us mistrust our neighbors. the camera is often barely a preventive measure, it is a tool of enforcement. i don’t feel safer being watched. there is no way to know exactly who is watching me. there is no distinguishable difference in the door camera of someone who uses it to check for a package & someone who uses it to police who they believe is allowed in my neighborhood. i did not consent to be recorded & there is no corner i can turn these days & escape the constant and all-seeing eye

This more than anything else has made me angry about AI. It’s infuriating. It’s stupid and unnecessary to do this to the environment. It’s not making food. It’s not powering cities. It’s literally just doing busy work for us so we can cheat at life. It makes me want to break things. I HATE AI for hurting earth. My job is environmentalism. Nothing I do will ever make a fraction of a difference when I’m fighting this. I want to die.

The popular perception of taylor and travis is so deeply rooted in misogyny it’s hard to fathom. He is the only one of her partners or friends I can think of who hasn’t been accused by the majority of swifties of using her for clout, despite the fact that he is the only one who was not internationally well known prior to their relationship. Calvin Harris – world renowned DJ and producer – was using her for clout; Tom Hiddleston – world renowned actor – was using for clout; Karlie Kloss, Cara Delevingne, Gigi Hadid – world renowned models – were using for for clout. But somehow, for some reason, travis kelce, a man who plays the usamerican sport in usamerica that the vast majority of the world does not care about, is somehow the only one who they see as her equal, even though she is infinitely more famous than he is. Literally the only explanation I can think of is that he fulfills this distinctly usamerican masculine ideal, and it’s just so sad to see how many grown women still genuinely believe that that is what makes a person valuable. Being a big man makes him valuable. Playing a sport makes him valuable. Having money makes him valuable. Being nonintellectual makes him valuable. Being non-artistic makes him valuable. It’s so depressing.

There’s definitely also a heaping dose of us-centrism in this. They think he’s somehow more worthy because he’s an All-American Sports Man but by every other standard he truly might as well just be some guy. Like he has comparatively such little impact on the world but for some reason he matters the most because the only part of the world that matters is ‘Murica™

I think when you correctly identify a trauma that is the base of a woe of yours it should just disappear. It should be like “aaahh. you got me” and vanish and leave 100 dollars behind

#if you line up several neuroses and identify the interlocking connections between them they should all vanish like clearing a line in tetris (via @karliahs)

Actually, I lied my only concern is that Cancelled is gonna be a But Daddy I Love Him esque song about people criticizing her for being friends with Brit*nny and her gang of conservative assholes, and we will have to live with the self-congratulatory posts from spineless Swifties who are like, “Well, I have no morals and Taylor is my whole world, so I have no issue with who she’s friends with. Unlike the rest of you fake fans” for weeks

“For anyone who doesn’t know what a Bacon number is, it is the degrees of separation a person is from the actor Kevin Bacon. Kevin Bacon’s number is 0, Someone who has worked with him directly’s number is 1. Someone who has worked with that person’s number is 2, and so on. (Here is a link to the Wikapedia page on Bacon numbers for more details.)

If you don’t know your Bacon number, you can check it on The Oracle of Bacon by putting in the name of the most famous person that you or someone you know have met”
